Vintage Thoughts…

I’ve posted this picture a few time on some of my other social sites and realized as I was about to post it here, that it would be too redundant and it needed something new or different. I simply gave it that vintage tint!

What Animals…

Working on some new animalistic skateboards. I really like the skateboard template, it really allows for a lot of creativity. A few more sessions and they will be ready for gloss and a professional photo op!

Pop Thoughts…

Sometimes I spend too much time thinking about things, this piece though, didn’t take much thinking. I was going to post the one original, the top left one, but then realized how boring that would be. I then decided to do this Warhol kind of effect to it and it definitely makes it a more fun piece to look at.

Smoking Skull…

This board came to me as I was sketching out a few other boards, mainly animal themed boards, you can check them out at my FB page, this one though was speaking to me. Once I sketched it out on the board – I had to first strip it of some stickers, sand it a bit, and then put a few coats of gesso on it – I just started painting. I didn’t use many colors, but I used a lot of paint, I spent about six, seven hours painting, and I was quite happy with how much I had done by that point, and called it finished. Well of course I had to put the gloss finish! I’m looking for a few more skate decks to paint and customize!

Mad Men…

I am quite happy with the way this turned out, and I know there are a lot of Mad Men fans out there, but I have to admit I haven’t watched the show. Had a lot of fun with this piece and learned a lot while doing it as well. I have been trying to find a way to work with the computer a little more often with my work. I still do all the drawing by hand, but after that I take it to the computer and finish it up with Illustrator and Photoshop. I have a few more of these on the way so be on the look out!

iRetro…

I don’t know if I said this before, but this all started with my wife asking me to make a retro piece of her, like a Lichtenstein. You have seen the first version I did, which I thought she would have be happy with. No. She said to me “I like it, but, I don’t have blue eyes or blond hair.” Ok, so back to the photoshop drawing board. I still had a lot of fun with this one, I didn’t need to change the drawing, but she needed glasses, because my wife wears glasses. I made them with illustrator, and did the rest with photoshop. I am really beginning to love the mix of traditional media and digital media!

PopArt, new iLook…

I couldn’t resist doing another one, popArt is always just fun to do! I have this great Lichtenstein book, that takes you through his entire process, from thumbnails and sketches, drawings, paintings, too final pieces. Everything about him, and his work and his process is just simply put, incredibly beautiful. The top drawing is from my sketch book, I penciled it out first and then used Faber-Castell PITT artist pen with a brush tip for the line work. Then I scanned it, and cleaned it up the lines with illustrator, and colored it with photoshop. I had a lot of fun figuring out how to do the dots! Technology really helped to create this new look for this popArt.

PopArt, New Technology…

HelloretroLove

I love Lichtenstein, then again who doesn’t? And if you don’t know who he is, or his art work, then I feel sorry for you. These came about when my wife was asking me to make her a Christmas gift, she wanted pop art. She made it real easy, she said “I want a Lictenstein, but with the girl using a new cellphone.” She is a nurse and a programmer, right now she is working on a cell phone application for women – who don’t have access to birth control –  to track their fertility cycle. With that, I went to work and pretty much just had fun with these.
