I have been meaning to post this one a few weeks ago, but the family and I made the move down to Maryland from NYC, so with packing and moving two kids, there was quite a bit to get done. Well, we are here now, in Maryland settling in nicely, making the switch from city rats to ‘burbanites .

I’ve posted this picture a few time on some of my other social sites and realized as I was about to post it here, that it would be too redundant and it needed something new or different. I simply gave it that vintage tint!

Working on some new animalistic skateboards. I really like the skateboard template, it really allows for a lot of creativity. A few more sessions and they will be ready for gloss and a professional photo op!

Sometimes I spend too much time thinking about things, this piece though, didn’t take much thinking. I was going to post the one original, the top left one, but then realized how boring that would be. I then decided to do this Warhol kind of effect to it and it definitely makes it a more fun piece to look at.
This board came to me as I was sketching out a few other boards, mainly animal themed boards, you can check them out at my FB page, this one though was speaking to me. Once I sketched it out on the board – I had to first strip it of some stickers, sand it a bit, and then put a few coats of gesso on it – I just started painting. I didn’t use many colors, but I used a lot of paint, I spent about six, seven hours painting, and I was quite happy with how much I had done by that point, and called it finished. Well of course I had to put the gloss finish! I’m looking for a few more skate decks to paint and customize!

I am quite happy with the way this turned out, and I know there are a lot of Mad Men fans out there, but I have to admit I haven’t watched the show. Had a lot of fun with this piece and learned a lot while doing it as well. I have been trying to find a way to work with the computer a little more often with my work. I still do all the drawing by hand, but after that I take it to the computer and finish it up with Illustrator and Photoshop. I have a few more of these on the way so be on the look out!

I don’t know if I said this before, but this all started with my wife asking me to make a retro piece of her, like a Lichtenstein. You have seen the first version I did, which I thought she would have be happy with. No. She said to me “I like it, but, I don’t have blue eyes or blond hair.” Ok, so back to the photoshop drawing board. I still had a lot of fun with this one, I didn’t need to change the drawing, but she needed glasses, because my wife wears glasses. I made them with illustrator, and did the rest with photoshop. I am really beginning to love the mix of traditional media and digital media!
