What Animals…

Working on some new animalistic skateboards. I really like the skateboard template, it really allows for a lot of creativity. A few more sessions and they will be ready for gloss and a professional photo op!

Pop Thoughts…

Sometimes I spend too much time thinking about things, this piece though, didn’t take much thinking. I was going to post the one original, the top left one, but then realized how boring that would be. I then decided to do this Warhol kind of effect to it and it definitely makes it a more fun piece to look at.

Liberty…

I started this piece the same time as my previous one. They started as a series and I am more than thrilled that I actually got around to finishing them, as a series! I Love This City!

Ghost Towers…

I started this canvas over a year ago, when I was doing a lot of paintings and drawings of New York City skylines and bridges. Like my usually ways, I started the painting and then abandoned it for a while. I had an Art showing at my place a few weeks ago with a great turn out. Met a lot of new interesting people, sold some work, and got a few commissions. This was one of the commissions, for an engineer I met, who liked my bridge works, buts most of them are black and white and they wanted something a little more vibrant.

Smoking Skull…

This board came to me as I was sketching out a few other boards, mainly animal themed boards, you can check them out at my FB page, this one though was speaking to me. Once I sketched it out on the board – I had to first strip it of some stickers, sand it a bit, and then put a few coats of gesso on it – I just started painting. I didn’t use many colors, but I used a lot of paint, I spent about six, seven hours painting, and I was quite happy with how much I had done by that point, and called it finished. Well of course I had to put the gloss finish! I’m looking for a few more skate decks to paint and customize!

Spinal Tap…

With the new year under way, there are some great projects coming my way. This was a commission, for the clients husband who is finishing up chiropractor school. This was an extremely fun piece because I was given complete freedom to make it funky and make it colorful. At first I was just thinking to have the spine alone by itself, but there was still a lot of canvas to work with. That’s when I thought to add some vertebrae, and directional arrows. When it was time to paint I wasn’t really sure how it was going to turn out. I don’t usually paint this large and at first it seemed really overwhelming. After about and hour, of just throwing paint every which way, and getting some cool dripping affects going on, there was a little more direction. The hardest part about doing a painting like this, for me, is knowing when to stop painting. I stopped. Before it was too late.

New Corner Studio…

Here is a snapshot(s) of my new studio in the city. Not much space, but it has everything I need with a bathroom behind door number one, too your right. I do all my work out of this tiny little room, sometimes I don’t leave this room for days at a time, Thank  you bathroom!

The Right Track…

The tracks above, make for some great perspective. This was the first one I did before getting into the other bridges. I wanted to see how much the paper could take so I gave it some light color with acrylics. I wanted to use watercolors, but it turned out to be too transparent for the paper, and the paper isn’t really made to take a lot of water. But I gave it another pass with acrylics, and though I got the color I wanted, it warped the paper.

Russian Bomber…

The Russian Bomber!

Boards Up…

Here they are, finished, and fully customized with trucks and wheels, and grip tape. What we get is a one of the kind hand painted customized skateboard! I am super happy with how these turned out. Once I finished the painting, I gave it a nice protective gloss finish, which really brought up the color. It still wasn’t a complete board without the trucks and wheels.  So when I went to the shop I was  able to choose which trucks and wheels I wanted, to really put that nice finishing touch. I put white trucks and white wheels with green bearings on the Elephant board. The Tiger received metallic trucks and white wheels with blue bearings. I gave the wheels some tiger stripes for added coolness! I might go back to the shop for some orange wheels!
